How to use this presentation Explains the structure of the course – know the objectives and how concepts relate Takes you through the course materials – have them handy You should be able to find everything easily Often you need to read something, then proceed to the next slide which may include audio comments When there is no audio, just follow the written instruction on the slide and go on to the next slide 2

Syllabus / Calendar The first section of the course materials is the syllabus / calendar. We will go through it almost page by page. Go to the course title page which follows the Lecture 1.1a text (p. VI). Page numbering starts again with 1. 3

Look at the model catalog (the very first reading) Shows the MARC format, which divides data about a book (bibliographic data) into fields.
