Jobs linked to the Environment

A green economy for future competitiveness Green jobs: All jobs that depend on the environment or are created, substituted or redefined (in terms of skills sets, work methods, profiles greened, etc.) in the transition process towards a greener economy Study results: Reducing the total material requirement of 17 -24% can lead to boosting GDP by up to 3.3% and creating 1.4 -2.8 million jobs Potential gains for businesses of between 3 and 8% of turnover by using resources more efficiently Implementation of individual energy efficiency measures could lead to 2 million green jobs created or retained by 2020 McKinsey: $ 2.3 trn global gain in improving resource efficiency in various sectors

Transforming the economy Promote sustainable production and consumption patterns: e.g. Green Public Procurement, eco-design of products Stimulating research & innovation: Horizon 2020, innovation partnerships. Getting the prices right: Phasing out environmentally harmful subsidies; shift from taxing labour towards environmental taxes, further development of the ETS Turning waste into a resource: stimulating secondary materials markets, improving implementation.
