Other Inheritance Patterns. Mendel’s Laws Law of Dominance: if the two alleles at a locus differ, then one, the dominant allele, determines the organism′s.
Investigating different patterns of inheritance
Genetics Beyond Mendel. Incomplete Dominance Phenotype is a blend of the alleles An intermediate is seen Four o’clocks Homozygous Red Heterozygous Homozygous.
Incomplete dominance This is when neither allele is dominant.
Genetics Chapters 9-1 & 9-2. Incomplete dominance There is no dominant allele or recessive allele The 2 alleles are blended and make up a new physical.
Incomplete Dominance Incomplete Dominance: The heterozygous genotype produces a phenoytype that falls in between the dominant trait and the recessive trait.
 Genes are found on the X AND Y chromosomes.  Genes that are carried on the sex chromosomes are called sex linked genes.
Codominance and Sex-linked traits. CODOMINANCE 2 alleles are dominant and both are expressed Most common examples are blood type and flower color.
Who is the Father of Genetics?. Mendel a type of gene that is hidden by a dominant gene.
PATTERNS OF INHERITANCE. What type of inheritance pattern is represented?
Genetics. Test cross Individual of unknown genotype is crossed with a homozygous recessive individual Determine the genotype of an individual whose phenotype.

What is Codominance?.
Test Monday 1/31.  Chromosome: DNA that has been tightly wound together, individuals genetic code  Gene: segment on a chromosome that code for a trait.

Special Cases Nina and Kristi

Codominance  non identical alleles that express two different phenotypes both present themselves  Blood type  both A and B blood types are dominant  if you inherit both then your blood type is AB AA Ao ABBo Ao A B

Codominance  Chickens  Mother hen is white(Wb) and Father is black (BB)  Both white and black are dominant WB Bb WB Bb Wb B B

Incomplete Dominance  When one Allele is not completely dominant over another

Epistasis  When one gene modifies or masks another  C =pigment  c = no pigment  B= black  b = brown

Sex Linked Genes  Genes that are directly linked to the chromosomes that determine sex  Females inherit both x chromosomes  Males inherit the x and y chromosomes  The x chromosome codes for around 1500 genes  The y chromosome codes for around 80 genes
