Container Management in the Port of Antwerp using EGNOS

Company overview Belgian spin-off of Interuniversity MicroElectronics Center International team of GNSS HW, SW and navigationexperts covering the full GNSS receiver development cycle Leading European developer of high-end GPS and Galileo receiver technology MISSION Design, develop & commercialize High-end OEM satellite navigation products Based on the Company’s proprietary satellite navigation technology Septentrio Satellite Navigation is a young and dynamic company, founded more than 4 years ago to commercialise the Satellite Navigation know-how developed at IMEC, the InterUniversity Micro Electronics Center, the largest independent MicroElectronics research center in the world. Septentrio is based near Brussels, the capital of the European Union. Septentrio has an international team of experts in all fields of Satellite Navigation design and applications : design of both analogue front-end and digital baseband ASICs and modules, development of embedded software, development and implementation of unique high-performance navigation algorithms and expertise in satellite navigation applications from various fields. With its unique set of skills and based on its proprietary satelite navigation technology, Septentrio will continue to design, develop and commercialise high-end satellite navigation products. Septentrio technology is inherently multi-system, dealing with all available satellite navigation signals available today, and actively promoting and developing the technology of tomorrow. More specifically, Septentrio is actively contributing to and promoting the European GNSS programs. Septentrio receivers are used today to evaluate the European augmentation signals (EGNOS), while Septentrio is also actively participating in the design and definition of Galileo receiver technology. Hence, Septentrio is a truely unique European satellite navigation company. April 16, 2017 © Septentrio Satellite Navigation

Galileo and Septentrio : Involved from the start Active in European programs (EGNOS and Galileo) since inception of the company Founding Member of Galileo Services Participating in Galileo Receiver Design Program from the start : Receiver Requirements and Reference Receiver Design Delivered first Galileo receiver model to ESA (Summer 2004) Delivered GSTBv2 receivers Used to receive first Galileo Signal from Space Leading Consortium for Test User Segment, covering all receiver types First industrial receiver range with Galileo capabilities Projects for receiver development Participating in European GNSS application projects with receiver technology Septentrio is an ardent supporter of and contributor to the European Galileo program. The doubling of the available number of satellites will dramatically improve the applicability of Satellite navigation, in both high-end industrial applications as well as in everyday consumer use. People around the world will be able to receive satellite signals in urban canyons, in increasingly noisy environments, at higher latitudes… Today, high-end customers continue to ask for combined receivers that are designed to receive and process GPS+GLONASS+SBAS signals, even though the GLONASS constellation’s long-term health is uncertain. Septentrio is catering for these using the current multi-system PolaRx receiver platform, and is participating actively in the design of Galileo reference Receivers and system requirements. Together with a number of other companies, Septentrio has founded Galileo Services. Galileo Services aims at promoting the industry's role in the Galileo programme, and at becoming the strategic partner of the Galileo programme's public promoters.Galileo Services is designed to be a major partner for the Galileo downstream technology and business development (terminals, applications and services), with a view to sustaining the Galileo programme. The aim is to foster an “end to end” vision of the Galileo system in order to fully respond to user and market needs. Galileo Services will work to bolster the economic value of the Galileo system, and intends to contribute towards the development of value-added services to fully exploit all possible business potential. Further, apart from participation in the European GNSS-1 program for validation of EGNOS as illustated before, we are also participating in application projects, notably applications where safety, and hence availability and intrgrity play a crucial role in demonstrating the viability of satellite-based solutions and hence underpinning the crucial role of Galileo for the world-wide satellite navigation market. keeping track of all containers during moves with straddle carriers Improving efficiency and safety in container yard operations at HesseNoord Natie Container yard = giant open-air warehouse and trans-shipment location Giant cranes for loading/unloading ships; Fleet of mobile cranes (straddle carriers and other) for moving containers around and onto trains/trucks The problem : keeping track of all containers during moves with straddle carriers April 16, 2017 © Septentrio Satellite Navigation

© Septentrio Satellite Navigation Improving efficiency and safety in container yard operations at HesseNoord Natie The problem : keeping track of all containers during moves with straddle carriers even though operation is organized using sophisticated planning and wharehousing computer system, human error remains important problem Even 0.1% error rate would result in several 1000s of containers “lost” (i.e. whose recorded position differs from real position) Current solution is manual check possible SAFETY risk (Human operators moving between large moving equipment) COSTLY (time and labor) Impact on OPERATING EFFICIENCY, punctual operation etc April 16, 2017 © Septentrio Satellite Navigation

© Septentrio Satellite Navigation Improving efficiency and safety in container yard operations at HesseNoord Natie Automatic logging of pick-up and drop-off points for containers to mitigate human error Linked to central yard-management SW : Using EGNOS (European satellite augmentation for accuracy improvement) for accuracies better than ½ container width (standard size 20ft container ≈ 6m x 2.5m x 2.3m) Original implementation in Deurganck terminal with 44 straddle carriers resulted in 0 “lost” containers; now rolled out on other terminals for >200 straddle carriers April 16, 2017 © Septentrio Satellite Navigation
