 Ra was the primary name of the sun god. His Name can either be pronounced, Ra or Re. He was often known as the king of the gods. Ra was one of the ancient gods, but he was not the oldest. He had lots of power, and was believed to be closely related with the Pharaoh. RA

 He was also known as, Heru. Heru means, “the distant one”, or “the one on high.” He was thought to be a falcon. He began as a god of the sky and war, and was married to Hathor. Then he was changed to son of Ra. He was also thought to be son of Isis and Osiris. HORUS

 He was the first son of Geb and Nut. He was considered king of the underworld. Older religions called him the god of the dead, and once was human that walked on Earth. OSIRIS

ISIS Isis is one of the oldest gods. Some think she originated from Sinai. She is thought to have been first worshiped near the Nile delta. Isis was a daughter of Geb. She was very popular.

Amun was a god in the Egyptian religion. He was also known as Amun of Hermopolis. He was called this because he was one of the eight gods who helped form Hermopolis. During the time of the middle kingdom Amun was adopted as the king of the gods in Thebes. He was promoted to national god by Ahmose I. AMUN

ANUBIS Anubis was known as a protector of the dead. Originally he was a god of the underworld. Anubis became associated with mummification process and funeral rites. Anubis was adopted the son of the king, Osiris. He became patron of lost souls including orphans. During the Ptolemaic period Anubis became associated with the Greek god Hermes. Priests would wear Anubis masks during mummification.

 Bes was a dwarf god. He was a god of war. He was also a patron of childbirth and home. He was associated with humor, music, and dancing. He began a protector of the pharaoh. He began to become very popular with day because he was protector of women and children. Over time he was known as a champion of everything good and evil. BES

 Hathor was one of the most famous goddesses. She was believed to have a relationship with Ra. In one myth she was considered his daughter but soon considered his mother. Hathor was a cow goddess. She was known as “the great one of many names.” She was associated with the Greek goddess Afrodite. HATHOR

 He was one of the most ancient gods. He was very popular. He was also Known as Khnum of Khufu, which means Khnum his protector. He was thought to be originally the water god. He was thought to rule all water, including rivers and lakes. KHNUM

PTAH He was worshiped through out all Egypt. He was very popular. He was the patron of sculptors. Painters, builders, carpenter, and other craftsmen. He was also the god of rebirth. He was the protector of Egypt.

SEBEK He was the god of the crocodiles. His worship is thought to have stopped in the Roman period. In some myths he was thought to be son of Set, the god of thunder and chaos. Some believe he was creator of the world who rose from the “Dark Water” and created the order of the universe.

 He was one of the earlier gods. A myth told Thoth as the creator god. It is thought that he was the author of “Book of the Dead”, and “ Book of Breathings.” It is said that Thoth was a great magician. THOTH
