EU-LAC Summits:  To establish strategic partnerships for mutual benefits  Define common policies  Identify priorities for dialogues and cooperation actions  Determine initiatives and mechanisms on how to implement those actions = High level decisions that guide implementation at lower levels

Academic Summit Santiago 2013 ACADEMIC SUMMIT: Five themes:  Reality and Perspectives of the EU-LAC Strategic Partnership  The development of the Euro-Latin American Higher Education.  Cooperation in Science, Technology, Research and Innovation and the Horizon 2020 Programme.  Forging an effective Partnership between Academia and Public institutions  The University-Industry Relationship for Training, Innovation and Technology Transfer

Academic Summit Santiago 2013 (2) Declaration of Santiago: Recommendations for politicians. Amongst others:  foster the EU-LAC area for Higher education, S+R+T+I and provide financial support mechanisms  promote the integration of scientific research and innovation systems  Foster cooperation of academia, industry and public sector as well as society at large The last recommendations includes also the support of entrepreneurship and the use of ICT to reach the goals.

EU-CELAC Action Plan (2) S+R+I+T AIMS: develop EU-LAC knowledge area strengthen S&T capacities and infrastructures sustainable R+I and knowledge sharing boost use of new technologies and TT foster cooperation wrt digital economy and reduce the digital divide; improve competitiveness and foster social inclusion ACTIONS:  Dialogue: up-date priorities; cooperation!  Cooperation initiatives: Joint initiative for R+I; facilitate exchange of all stakeholders; support development of the ICT sector; develop a knowledge and information centre network (MPyMEs); capacity building; entrepreneurship
