STARTER In pairs, make a spider diagram for what you consider to be the dominant representation of Brazil in the media.

GROUP TASK With reference to your own detailed examples, explore the different ways in which Brazil is represented in the media today. In your groups of 3, each member must focus on a moving- image, print or e-media text. Refer to: Analysing print (page 21 key concept booklet) Analysing web-pages ( e-media – page 22 key concept booklet) Analysing broadcast (page 19 key concept booklet) Consider theory and possible audience responses: Propp, Todorov, Barthes (enigma), Levi Strauss (binary opposites), David Gauntlett (‘pick and mix’ theory), Cohen (moral panics) etc.
