6 The Exam Topic : Television News Length of the Exam 1 hour 30 minutes long There are 60 marks available

7 The Exam A brief is released four weeks before your exam.
No formal teaching will take place, but you can work independently on the pre-release material during this time. You MUST respond to the task in role!

8 The Questions There are FOUR tasks – the order and type of task may vary. i.e. There could be a task to test your knowledge and research of with anything to do with TV news. This may be discussion based and cover things such as news gathering, bias and impartiality as well as looking at the different platforms TV News can be accessed on. You may be asked to write a pitch/proposal and provide justification for a new TV news programme aimed at a specific audience. This may include suggesting presenters, content and a style for the intended audience. You could be asked to carry out a production task – it could be to create a running order for your new TV news programme, or maybe storyboard the title sequence, or even write a script for one of the news stories.

What is the topic area of study? How long is the exam? How many weeks in advance do you get the brief? What happens once you get the brief? How many questions are you required to answer? How many marks can you get overall? At this moment in time, do you have any questions?

14 News through the Ages! You should include the following details on your poster: Time period Name of communication method How was it used? What type of news did it communicate? An image

15 Plenary Discuss in pairs: What methods do you use to communicate news to your friends or family?

16 Homework News Challenge! Look at a TV programme schedule. You can look online or in a newspaper or magazine. Pick a day and then pick a TV channel. List how many times the news is broadcast, and for how long.
