Presentation transcript:

Get your sweatshirt and select your zipper size.

Two way separating zippers open from top to bottom and from the bottom up. One way separating zippers only zip down from the top.

The best way to make way for the zipper is to fold the sweatshirt in two and use the fold to help cut down the front..

After cutting, reinforce the raw edges with a zigzag stitch.

Line the zipper up at the bottom of the opening. WARNING- double separating zips can’t be shortened. Regular separatings can be shortened at the top.

Notice the pins have the heads facing down, making them easier to remove when sewing.

Imagine that! The sewing machine manual has instructions on how to sew in a zipper. Use it!

Np Notice the position of the zipper foot!

The regular presser foot MUST stay with the machine. Needless to say- a missing presser foot= a sewing machine that can’t be used.

Fold the top back – for double separating zipper - or bind off (shorten) for regular separating zipper.

Don’t you think it makes sense to keep the stich length at 3, so stitches could more easily be removed if mistakes are made?

Sew slowly! There will be a point where you will need to stop the machine- with the needle in the DOWN position, so you can slide the zipper pull past the seam line. Then just keep sewing.

Now fold the zipper back and top-stitch on the right side to really secure the zipper in place. Be careful not to stitch too close to the zipper, as the top stiching may make it impossible to open.

OOOO. Looking good!

Carefully line the zipper up at the bottom and do it all again!

Now add pockets and fringe!
