1 Fabric Arts I Photo Transfer Pillow

2 Steps 1 & 2 Pin your “A” strips to your “C” strips with face sides together.

3 ¼” Foot Use a ¼” foot when sewing your strips together. Make sure the right edge of your fabric is lined up with the right edge of the presser foot using the black edge as a guide.

4 Step 3 After sewing the A strips to your C strip, use the iron to press the seams toward the darker color.

5 Step 4 Pin & sew your D-6 ½” strip to your “A-C-A” square. Face sides together & press.

6 Step 5 & 6 Pin & sew white square fabric to your D-6 ½” strip. Face sides together. Press the seam towards the “D” strip.

7 Step 7 Pin & sew your D- 14 ½” strip to the bottom. Press towards darker fabric.

8 Step 8 Pin the two squares face sides together with the white squares opposite of each other. Make sure the middle two D- 6 ½” vertical pieces are lined up.

9 Step 8 Press seams and make the vertical pieces D strips are lined up.

10 Steps 9-11 Use a tape measure to measure the top of the project from corner to corner and cut 1 E strip that measurement. Mark that E strip “T” using masking tape. That is for the top. Do the same thing for the bottom except mark it “B” for bottom. Set both E strips aside for step 14 T B

11 Step 12 Pin & sew E strips to your squares with face sides together. Match the top edges together. The strips should be too long and hanging off the bottom.

12 Step 12 & 13 Trim E strips to match the sides of the bottom piece.

13 Step 13 Outcome

14 Step 14 Pin & sew B 3”x 3” squares to each side of the 2 E strips. Face sides together.

15 Step 15 Pin the E strips to the edges of the square. Match and pin the seams first then pin the rest of the strip.

16 Step 15 & 16 Pin & sew the E strips

17 Step 16 Finished Top Make sure to press your top nice and flat with seams facing towards darker fabric.

18 Steps 17 & 18 Embroider on your “C” pieces and transfer your photo to the white squares

19 Step 19 Muslin (Back) Batting (Middle) Top of pillow (Top)

20 Steps 20-23 Using embroidery floss & needle, make even stitches horizontally and vertically in the middle of your “D” strips. Use tape for a guide to make sure your stitches are straight

21 Step 24 Using a hem gauge, measure ¼” from the body to the border and stitch evenly all around the inside edge of the border

22 Step 25 You may add buttons in the 4 corners or near your pictures/embroidery. (This step is optional).

23 Step 26 Trim the batting & muslin right along the outside edge of the border. After Before

24 Steps 27 & 28 Pin all edges down securely Cut along the two edges
Open up large print right side facing up. Lay the top of pillow right side facing down on the large print (right sides together). Line it up on the edge of the large print so you are not wasting fabric. You should only need to cut two sides. Make sure the backing and top of pillow is same size! Pin all edges down securely Cut along the two edges

25 Steps 29-31 Thread up your sewing machine and use ¼” foot. Start sewing at the inside edge of the bottom left square. Sew all the way around until you get to the inside edge of the right bottom square. Don’t forget to backstitch at the beginning and end!!! Pivot at corners with needle down. Then turn it right side out so you are ready for stuffing.

26 Steps 32-35 Turn right sides out. Check for no holes then add stuffing.

27 Step 36 Tuck in raw edges and pin.

28 Step 37 Hand stitch the bottom of the pillow where you left open to stuff.

29 FINISHED 
