2 1.Hand Wheel Makes the needle go up and down.
ALWAYS TURN TOWARD YOU!!!!!! Have students turn the hand wheel and watch the needle go up and down.

3 2.Thread Take Up Lever Brings the thread from spool pin down to interlock with bobbin thread. Always needs to be at the highest point when beginning to sew and when threading your machine. Have students look at it raise and lower as they turn the hand wheel

4 3. Machine Needle The upper thread is threaded through the machine needle. To change the needle turn the needle clamp toward you, remove the needle and put new one in with flat side of the needle facing the back Have students actually change the needle.

5 4.Presser Foot Lever Raises and lowers the presser foot. It is found on the back of the machine. Have students raise and lower the presser foot

6 5. Presser Foot Holds the fabric down against the feed dogs to move the fabric evenly through the machine. There are several different types of presser feet, each designed to make a particular sewing task easier.

7 6. Feed Dogs Toothed metal piece below the stitch plate that moves up and down to push the fabric along beneath the needle. Have students turn hand wheel and watch them go up and down

8 Where the seam allowance guidelines are found.
7. Stitch Plate Where the seam allowance guidelines are found. Each line is 1/8” apart, beginning with the inside edge of the presser foot, and ending with the far right edge of the stitch plate. Standard seam allowance is 5/8”.

9 8. Bobbin Winder and Bobbin Stop

10 9.Stitch Width Increase and decrease the width of a stitch

11 10. Stitch Length Increase and decrease the length of a stitch.
Going all the way to a 5 will make a basting stitch. Down to 1.5 will make a reinforcement stitch Have student turn on the machine and push arrows up to a 5 and then down to 1.5

12 11. Reverse Button Push to make the stiches go backwards. Use it to backstitch at the beginning and end of every permanent stitch.

13 12. Thread Cutter Cutting tool on the left side of the sewing machine that allows for easy thread trimming. Have students pull thread from bobbin case and cut it.

14 13. Foot Pedal Controls the speed of the machine.
Tell them about spool pin, and thread tension.
