Presentation transcript:

 In-text citations formatted alphabetically by authors e.g. (Armstrong, 2006; Sweetman, 1999)  Et al. not italicized

 Hanging indent - Paragraph dialog box - Indents and spacing - Special - Hanging indent

 "References" centered at the top of the page (do NOT bold, underline, or use quotation marks for the title). All text should be double-spaced just like the rest of your essay/report.  Italicize ‘Journal’ when referencing journal articles.  Italicize ‘Title’ when referencing a book.  Consistency. - Issue number  Present journal title in full e.g. J Abnorm Child Psychol --- Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology

Quotations  Directly quoting from a work, include the author, year of publication, and the page number for the reference (preceded by "p."). Introduce the quotation with a signal phrase that includes the author's last name followed by the date of publication in parentheses. e.g. According to Jones (1998), "Students often had difficulty using APA style, especially when it was their first time" (p. 199).  If the author is not named in a signal phrase, place the author's last name, the year of publication, and the page number in parentheses after the quotation. e.g. She stated, "Students often had difficulty using APA style" (Jones, 1998, p. 199), but she did not offer an explanation as to why.

 Font- Times New Roman.  Font size- 12 pt.  Margins- ‘Normal’.  Justify

 Double spacing. To do this, select ‘line and paragraph spacing’ which is located in the center of the ‘Paragraph’ options box

 ‘Justify’ your text. To do this click ‘justify’ in the paragraph box. Or you can highlight your text (excluding your references) and use Ctrl+J.

 To keep subtitles and belonging paragraph together, - Place cursor anywhere along the subtitle, then click: - ‘Paragraph dialogue box’. - ‘Line and page breaks’ - Check the box ‘keep with next’.  This tip works the same for keeping information together with graphs, diagrams and pictures such as the one above.

 To start you referencing list on a new page: - Click cursor/pointer anywhere along the title ‘References:’ - Open ‘Paragraph dialogue box’ - Select ‘Line and page breaks’ - Check the box ‘Page break before’.  This will ensure your referencing will stay on a new page when sending it for marking.
