1 Manuscript Format – Margins (APA)
Margins should be at least 1" all the way around. The text itself should start at the 1" mark. The header should be above the text. Therefore, on a word processor, the top margin should be one-half inch (.5").

2 Manuscript Format – Spacing (APA)
Everything should be double spaced: headers, page numbers, title page, text, block quotes, reference page--EVERYTHING.

3 Manuscript Format – References Page (APA)
The reference list heading should look just like this: References Not "Bibliography," not "Works Cited" Do not use all capital letters. Do not underline, bold, or italicize.

4 Manuscript Format – Pagination and Headers (APA)
Every page (including the title and reference pages) should have a header and a page number in the upper right hand corner. The header may appear above or 4-5 spaces before the page number. The header should be the first word or first few words of the title. It should look like this: Psychosocial Development 5

5 Manuscript Format – Order of Entries (APA)
Entries on the reference page should be in alphabetical order. If an article has more than one author, list the names within the reference in the order they are given in the book or periodical. Reference page citations for articles without authors should be listed in alphabetical order according to the article title. Do not regard "A," "An," or "The" as the first word in a title.

6 Manuscript Format – Block Quotes (APA)
Block quotations (any direct quote over 40 words) should be indented 5 spaces from the left hand margin only. Block quotes should not be surrounded by quotation marks. The block quotation should end with a final punctuation mark which should be followed by the in-text citation.

Margins should be 1" all the way around. The text itself should start at the 1" mark. The header should be above that. Therefore, on a word processor, the top margin should be set for one-half inch (.5").

8 Manuscript Format – Title Page (MLA)
MLA research papers do not need a title page. The first page should contain a heading with vital information in the upper left-hand corner. This information should include your name, your professor's name, your class name and number, and the date. It should look like this: Laurence Olivier Professor Hamlet Drama September 2009

The works cited list heading should look just like this: Works Cited Not "bibliography," not "references" Do not use all capital letters. Do not underline.

The entries on the works cited page should be in alphabetical order. List authors' names in a single entry (if an article has more than one author) in the order they are given in the book or periodical. If a periodical article has no author, list it by the first significant word in the title, disregarding "The," "An," or "A."

12 Manuscript Format – Block Quote (MLA)
Block quotations (any direct quote over 4 typed lines) should be indented 10 spaces from the left hand margin only. Block quotes should not be surrounded by quotation marks. The block quotation should end with a final punctuation mark which should be followed by two spaces and then the in-text citation

13 Manuscript Format – Pagination and Headers (MLA)
Every page, including the first page and reference page(s), should have a header and a page number in the upper right-hand corner. The header should be your last name. It should look like this: Olivier 5
