Think about the shape of the space, try finding one with areas that aren’t straight or have a areas that change shape. Draw the space onto paper lightly. You could use a ruler or free-hand. Draw a line following the inside edge of your drawing. Use thick pens or pencils. Draw another line with a different colour next to the first line. Keep going, changing the colour to another you think goes well or is interesting next to the other colours. As you add more lines you will see the different shapes of the room are emphasised and the lines change shape more and more. Extension/ You could try this with a tonal pencil; changing the tones for each line. You could try using rolled up colourful material, clothes or objects and place them against the edge of a space then add repeated ‘lines’ out into the middle of the space.. Villages with only a few buildings. Buildings on their own; big or small. Animals, people, ships, planes. Add colour and tone by mixing colours, or creating tone with a lead pencil. 3. Add names of places on the map – names of the mountains, cities and places. 4. Think of a name for the country or place and design lettering for it. Draw lettering in one of the corners of your map. 5. Design a flag for your country or place. Think how you could show something about place visually in your flag. 6. Add a compass.
