District 42 - November All Leader Call Division - Successes and Challenges

 70% of officers trained in round one COT  6 of 7 areas sent contestants to the Division A Table Topics contest  6 of 7 areas sent contestants to the Division A Humorous Speech contest  Both first place winners from Division A competed at the District 42 contests  5 of 7 area governors, two assistant area governors, the division governor and the assistant division governor attended the fall conference Division A - The A Team - Successes

 6 clubs had less than four officers trained  Not all clubs had contests  Club base of 548 members, but only 427 active members despite having 73 new members  The GP Toasters club has folded  The Toast of Safeway club has no paid members and the future of this club is uncertain Division A - The A Team - Challenges

 Successes  New clubs – one chartered and one more on the way  One club that had no members renew decided to try again and now have 8 members  Participated in the Calgary Immigrant Fair where we got significant interest from the attendees  Three clubs with 4 DCP points and eight clubs with 3 DCP points Division C – aDDVANCe Team

1)All areas held an area contest. 2)Membership dues were paid. 3)Demo meeting was done for a prospective new club. 4)Charter celebration of the new club in D55 Fort Saskatchewan Club. 5)Join Toastmaster Anniversary Celebration of the Peter Kossowan & Wild Rose Toastmaster celebrating 75 years while Narrators Toastmaster celebrated its 20 th Anniversary. 6)All Areas participated during the Division Contest. DD D CHALLENGES 1. Lack of commitment from members who pay their dues, take on roles but do not show up for meetings or never attend meetings at all. 2. Paid members who suddenly have major changes in their work/family schedules that would enable them to fulfill their duties as a club executive and totally give up not just their elected position as well as their toastmaster membership. 3. Corporate Toastmaster clubs without the support of management have difficulty in letting the members attend regular toastmaster meetings due to work time restrictions imposed by management. 4. Strong domineering attitude of long time club members often who appears to not give a chance to prospective or new members appears to be a drawback which results in prospective members not coming back or members not renewing their membership.

DD D CHALLENGES 5. To have a joint membership campaign in a central part of the downtown core in Edmonton due to a low membership in some of the clubs in the downtown core. 6. Convince the club to modify it’s culture to allow for membership growth. 7. Ensure that the needs of the clubs in Ft. McMurray will be looked after. 8. Lackluster “un-fun” boring meetings discourages membership continuity.
