9 th Grade Directions 4 Minutes of Careful Reading There will be 4 questions this week. You will have 1:30 to work on each question individually. You will have 40 seconds to work on each question as a group.

1. What is the author’s purpose for paragraph #1? A.Explain why humor is important to the author. B.Explain why the author did not have a close relationship to his family. C.Explain why people tell jokes. D.Explain that young kids are boring.

#2 How are paragraphs 2, 4, and 6 related? A. They are unrelated. No connections are available whatsoever. B.They describe all of the author’s favorite jokes. C.They describe the connection between tragedy and humor. D.They explain how humor works.
