2 11th Grade Directions 5 Minutes of Careful Reading
There will be 5 questions this week. You will have 1 minute to work on each question individually. You will have 1 ½ minutes to work on each question as a Squad.

3 #1 The 6th paragraph (lines 53-61) suggests that Thespis is:
Proud but confused Nervous but confident Arrogant but knowledgeable Inexperienced but conceited

4 #2 Which of the following best describes the author’s approach to presenting the story?
An eye witness report of the world’s first actor’s performance A critic’s review of the world’s first play to have a solo performance A humorous detail of the events back stage during a theatre production A first-person account of the narrator’s experience in theater and as the world’s first actor

5 #3 The passage suggests that Thespis was asked to perform at the Festival of Dionysus because:
He broke new ground with his first role He was the most superior actor of his time He had a fresh approach to theater which would never catch on Great playwrights believed he could be creative on stage

6 #4 In the passage, “sweat [was] streaming down [Thespis’] sides” (line 31), in part, because:
The actor’s costume was restricting and his confidence was destroyed in the dress rehearsal No other actor or playwright had confidence that he could be innovative on stage The skene was stifling hot but spacious and open The actor’s waiting area was crowded and Thespis was nervous to perform

7 #5 The first paragraph (lines 1-9) establishes that:
Thespis is a confident and expertly trained actor Thespis, a well trained actor, is awarded an innovative role Thespis will win the Festival of Dionysus competition Thespis will write a conventional play for the festival

8 CPW 11th Grade Reading Repeat the questions with your Squad. Discuss with your Squad what the correct answers are. 1 ½ minutes per question for Squad Mode. Rotate the ‘recorder’ after each question. After Question 5, trade Squad answer sheets and launch the Answer Video.
