Introduce quotation: As Elie remembers the horrifying deaths of children he saw at the entrance to Auschwitz, his anger and despair cause him to write, Quotation: “Never shall I forget that sight which murdered my faith and my God forever” (70). Analyze: Elie cannot believe in or respect a God who would let such a terrible crime happen.
