LESSON 20 CONNECTIONS 1.Evaluate this statement: I think it’s spiritually dangers to watch TV shows that feature adultery as an acceptable lifestyle. Watching immorality can place sinful, lustful thoughts in our minds. That can lead to actually committing the sins.

LESSON 20 CONNECTIONS 2.Melissa knew she shouldn’t watch some TV shows because they glorified immoral lifestyles. But out of curiosity, she often turned to those shows and found herself laughing at some indecent humor. Afterward she felt guilty. What would you advise her? Remember Joseph and follow his example. His love and respect for God helped him walk away from the temptation.

LESSON 20 CONNECTIONS 3. Bobby Ray is lazy. He isn’t a very good husband and father. How would Bobby Ray act differently if he obeyed God’s command that husbands and wives should submit to each other? He would help his wife around the house and would communicate with her in a positive manner. He would also help with taking care of the kids.

LESSON 20 CONNECTIONS 4. What does God command in the Sixth Commandment? God commands everyone to lead a pure and decent life. He commands husbands and wives to love and honor each other.

THE SEVENTH COMMANDMENT You shall not steal. What does this mean? We should fear and love God that we do not take our neighbor’s money or property, or get it by dishonest dealing, but help him to improve and protect his property and means of income.

LESSON 21 CONNECTIONS 1.How does God want us to use our property and income? God wants us to provide for our families, to help the needy, and to support the work of our church and our government.

LESSON 21 CONNECTIONS 2.What was wrong with the way the businessman in the story was planning to use his money? He planned to squander it on himself and thought nothing of his family, the needy, or his Lord.

LESSON 21 CONNECTIONS 3.What does the Bible say about Mr. Wilman’s attitude towards his brother who asked him for a loan? If a person sees his relative in need and refuses to help, he is worse than an unbeliever. He doesn’t love God.

LESSON 21 CONNECTIONS 4.Evaluate this statement: When we come to faith in Jesus, our attitude toward our money changes. We still have a greedy, selfish, sinful human nature. But when Jesus renews our hearts with faith, we can overcome it and use what God has given us to serve God and help others.

Matthew 22:21 “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”

THE 7 TH COMMANDMENT: STEALING MONEY AND PROPERTY Lesson 22 Faith Foundations Course One

WHAT DOES GOD FORBID IN THE SEVENTH COMMANDMENT?

TAKING WHAT DOESN’T BELONG TO US 1.Read Ephesians 4:28. What is God’s clear message to us about property that belongs to someone else? We shouldn’t steal it.

TAKING WHAT DOESN’T BELONG TO US 2.How might you use James 1:17 together with Ephesians 4:28 to show Michael that he wrong by stealing and that it is a sin? James reminds us that everything we have comes from God, and if God hasn’t given us something he has good reason. Ephesians 4:28 tells us it is wrong to steal.

TAKING WHAT DOESN’T BELONG TO US 3.Recall the account of the good Samaritan in Luke 10: Explain why the robbers were guilty of breaking the 7 th Commandment. They took by force something that God had given to someone else.

TAKING WHAT DOESN’T BELONG TO US 4.Recall the account of Achan from Joshua 6 & 7. How do you think Achan justified taking the robe and the silver and gold? He probably thought he wasn’t taking it from anyone. It would all go to waste. And no one would ever know it was missing.

TAKING WHAT DOESN’T BELONG TO US 5.Kirsten stole a pack of gum but didn’t think it was a big deal because it was only gum. How does God show us any stealing is serious in 1 Corinthians 6:9,10? Thieves are listen among those who will not inherit the kingdom of God.

TAKING WHAT DOESN’T BELONG TO US 6.Travis saw a man drop a $20 bill and quickly picked it up and put it in his pocket. Explain why Travis was guilty of breaking the 7 th Commandment? The money wasn’t his. Travis should have given it back to the stranger.

TAKING WHAT DOESN’T BELONG TO US 7.Evaluate this statement: A person who gambles can be guilty of stealing from his family and from the church. True. If gambling takes money away from his family and from the Lord’s work, then he is guilty of taking from them what they need.

KEY POINT #1 God forbids us… to steal our neighbor’s money or property.

CHEATING OTHERS 8.Read 1 Kings 21:1-16. Describe the events that ended up with a king of Israel becoming guilty of stealing and murder. When Naboth wouldn’t sell his vineyard to King Ahab, Ahab’s wife hatched a plot to have Naboth killed so Ahab could have the property.

CHEATING OTHERS 9.Read Amos 8:4-6. Identify practices that made the merchants guilty of stealing. Skimping the measure, boosting the price, cheating with dishonest scales, selling the sweepings with the wheat.

CHEATING OTHERS 10.When Mr. Esser put a “for sale” sign on his car, he instructed his wife not to tell any prospective buyers about the transmission problems they had with the car. In what way did that make his guilty of stealing? Because of the mechanical problems, anybody who bought the car would be paying more than it was worth.

CHEATING OTHERS 11.Welfare is a government program to help people who cannot work. But if a person who can work refuses to do so and still picks up a welfare check, he is guilty of stealing. How? He would be guilty of taking money from the government he didn’t deserve. He would be stealing from those that truly needed the money. It would also mean that taxpayers would have to pay more taxes to support him.

KEY POINT #2 God forbids us… to get our neighbor’s money or property by dishonest dealing.

WHAT DOES GOD FORBID IN THE 7 th COMMANDMENT? 1.God forbids us to steal our neighbor’s money or property. 2.God forbids us to get our neighbor’s money or property by dishonest dealing. SUMMARY God forbids us to take our neighbor’s possessions by stealing or by dishonest dealing.
