2 The 9th Commandment You shall not covet your neighbors house.
What does this mean? We should fear and love God that we do not scheme to get our neighbor’s inheritance or house or obtain it by false claims, but do all we can to help him keep it.

3 The 10th Commandment You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife or his workers or his animals or anything that belongs to your neighbor. What does this mean? We should fear and love God that we do not force or entice away from our neighbor his wife, workers or animals, but urge them to stay and do their duty.

4 What would happen if… What would happen if you went into a bank and, pretending to have a gun, demanded a million dollars? What would happen if you went into a bank and thought how nice it would be to have a million dollars?

5 What would happen if… Our law in the United States says that you can only be arrested if you break the law by something you say or do. You cannot be arrested because of what you think. God’s law is different because even if we think sinful things, we are guilty of sinning against God.

6 WHAT IS GOD IMPRESSING ON US BY TELLING US NOT TO COVET?

7 What is coveting? A sinful craving
(Psalm 10:2-3) In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises. He boasts of the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the Lord. A sinful craving

8 ...which leads to sinful words and actions
What is coveting? (James 1:14-15) but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. ...which leads to sinful words and actions

9 Key #1 Coveting is a SINFUL CRAVING that often leads people to SINFUL WORDS AND ACTIONS!

10 What does God teach us about coveting that goes on in our hearts?
(Psalm 51:5) Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. Sinful from birth

11 What does God teach us about coveting that goes on in our hearts?
(Romans 8:7) the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. The sinful nature doesn't submit to God

12 What does God teach us about coveting that goes on in our hearts?
(1 John 3:15) Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him. Even sinful thoughts deserve punishment

13 Key #2 Key #1 - Coveting is a SINFUL CRAVING that often leads people to SINFUL WORDS AND ACTIONS! I deserve death and hell because of the SINFUL NATURE I have had from birth, that fills my heart with SINFUL DESIRES.

14 What does God teach me about the holy desires I have in my heart?
(Ephesians 4:21-24) Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. We have a new heart

15 What does God teach me about the holy desires I have in my heart?
(Philippians 4:8) Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Our new heart has only holy desires!

16 Key #3 Key #1 - Coveting is a SINFUL CRAVING that often leads people to SINFUL WORDS AND ACTIONS! Key #2 - I deserve death and hell because of the SINFUL NATURE I have had from birth, that fills my heart with SINFUL DESIRES. By bringing me to faith, God has given me a NEW HEART that loves God’s will and enables me to have HOLY DESIRES.

17 What is the result of my having both a sinful nature and a new heart?
There is a spiritual battle in us! (Galatians 5:17) For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.

18 What is the result of my having both a sinful nature and a new heart?
We live for Christ because he lived and died for us! (Galatians 2:20) I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

19 Key #4 Key #1 - Coveting is a SINFUL CRAVING that often leads people to SINFUL WORDS AND ACTIONS! Key #2 - I deserve death and hell because of the SINFUL NATURE I have had from birth, that fills my heart with SINFUL DESIRES. Key # 3 - By bringing me to faith, God has given me a NEW HEART that loves God’s will and enables me to have HOLY DESIRES. As a result, there are CONSTANT BATTLES in me between the two and only as I grow in FAITH IN CHRIST will my heart win more and more of these battles!
