1-3-2 TERMINAL OBJECTIVE Describe the emergency procedures for the Aircrew CBR ensemble.

1-3-3 ENABLING OBJECTIVES Understand the emergency procedures for pusher fan malfunction Understand the procedures for oxygen system failure Understand over land egress procedures for uncontaminated and contaminated conditions Understand over water egress procedures.

1-3-4 OVERVIEW n Safety features n Emergency procedures n Egress procedures

1-3-5 SAFETY FEATURES n Mask rip-away n Anti-suffocation disconnect

1-3-6 PUSHER FAN MALFUNCTION n Close Hood outlet valve n Check battery switch “ON” n Check power cord connection n Change battery n If resumes function open Hood mask valve Fixed wing continueFixed wing continue Rotary wing continueRotary wing continue

1-3-7 PUSHER FAN MALFUNCTION n If the fan is still malfunctioning and the mask fogs, switch H-manifold to OPEN (horizontal) position. –This will allow the A/C O 2 system to defog the faceplate. n WARNING If using LOX, the supply will be If using LOX, the supply will be depleted twice as fast. depleted twice as fast. * in this position you will be breathing a combination of O2 and ambient air but the amount of ambient air is minimal so you do not need to go below 10Kft

1-3-8 PUSHER FAN MALFUNCTION n If the fan is still malfunctioning and the mask fogs, the quick disconnect can be used if fogging is severe and you are in a non- contaminated environment. –Face Plate rip-away should be left as a last resort as you cannot reseal and will lose ability to have CBR protection.

1-3-9 FIRE / SMOKE n Turn pusher fan off n Follow normal aircraft EP’s n Not a substitute for smoke mask –Unless attached to aircraft O 2 n Once smoke clears re-engage pusher fan

AIRSICKNESS n Release the toggle harness. n Pull orinasal mask away from face. NOTE CBR protection will be maintained. n For extreme airsickness, activate the rip-away facility. CAUTION CBR protection will be lost. Fixed wing continue Rotary wing continue

OXYGEN FAILURE n Switch the H-manifold from CLOSED (vertical) to OPEN (horizontal). n Descend to below 10,000 ft Video

EJECTION/BAILOUT PROCEDURES WARNING Ejection/Bailout at low altitude does not allow time for mask rip away, anti-suffocation disconnect, H-manifold or hood outlet valve operation. Ejection/Bailout at low altitude does not allow time for mask rip away, anti-suffocation disconnect, H-manifold or hood outlet valve operation.

EGRESS OVER LAND NON-CONTAMINATED ENVIRONMENT n Normal IROK procedures n In options phase you can : –Raise visor –Locate and pull D-ring –Unsnap right side toggle harness strap. CAUTION Unsnapping both toggle harness straps will allow faceplate to fall and suspend from overvest resulting in a snag hazard. Unsnapping both toggle harness straps will allow faceplate to fall and suspend from overvest resulting in a snag hazard.

EGRESS OVER LAND NON-CONTAMINATED ENVIRONMENT cont n Rip faceplate away from face. CAUTION CAUTION The respirator assembly will not provide CBR protection after rip-away is performed. The respirator assembly will not provide CBR protection after rip-away is performed. Video

EGRESS OVER LAND NON-CONTAMINATED ENVIRONMENT n If rip-away fails, locate and activate the anti- suffocation disconnect by twisting and pulling down.

EGRESS OVER LAND CONTAMINATED ENVIRONMENT n Normal IROK procedures n Switch H-manifold from CLOSED (vertical) to OPEN (horizontal) position. n Ensure pusher fan is still running. n If fan is not running the Hood Outlet Valve shall be closed immediately. –To close, pull out on disc, twist and release.

EGRESS OVER WATER EGRESS OVER WATER n IROK n Ensure closure of hood outlet valve. NOTE NOTE The pusher fan will fail to supply filtered air upon emersion in water. The pusher fan will fail to supply filtered air upon emersion in water. n Perform faceplate ripaway prior to or upon water entry. n If ripaway fails, locate and activate the anti- suffocation disconnect by twisting and pulling down. NEXT

Helo Water Landing n Prepare for regular water entry –Locate reference point –Brace for water impact –Open exits within reach n Close hood outlet valve (on the mask) n Wait for all violent motion to stop n Release lapbelt /comms n Exit aircraft as normal –Hand over hand to exit –If exit blocked Face plate rip-away and use HABD bottle n Once free of aircraft inflate LPFC n Once reach surface perform faceplate rip- away

Helo Egress on Land uncontaminated n Brace for impact n Wait for all violent motion to stop n Egress helo per SOP n Don’t inflate LPFC n Per situation can doff gear as required

Helo Egress on Land contaminated n Brace for impact n Wait for all violent motion to stop n Egress helo per SOP n Don’t inflate LPFC n Maintain integrity of CBR gear

N-10 Training n This training is offered at the Aviation Survival Training Center. n Covers water egress procedures while wearing NBC protection

Lessons Learned n Have the FE shop/Paraloft post the EPs in a prominent place that the aircrew can see as they dress. n Have FEs/PRs go over EPs and perform location drills with aircrew as they don NBC gear. n While doing mask fitting of aircrew include explanation and practice of EPs n Practice the disconnection of the toggle harness from the helmet

Questions? n What are the two safety features of the mask? n What do you do for pusher fan malfunction in your platform? n What is N-10 training and where do you attend it?
