How to Pitch

Pitching is story- telling

How to Pitch 4 Steps Start with Motive Research your Audience Optimize the Presentation Rehearse and Internalize

How to Pitch Start with Motive Why do you want to pitch someone on a given product, service, or idea? Is it because you ultimately want to make money or form a new relationship? You need to first establish your motive. 1.

How to Pitch Why establish your motive? People are generally excellent at detecting dishonesty. Instead of spending time trying to deceive people, tell them your motive at the start. This establishes trust and increases the chance that your pitch will be successful. 2.

How to Pitch What is a good motive? Genuine. Optimistic. Simple. 3.

How to Pitch 4 Steps Star with Motive Research your Audience Optimize the Presentation Rehearse and Internalize

How to Pitch Research your Audience Never create a presentation hoping it will be liked - tailor it to the audience. Average age, median income, geography, religion, values and beliefs. Make it more relevant to them by drawing unconventional connections. 1.

How to Pitch Research your Audience Google the people that will be listening to you, read anything you can about them. If it’s a large audience, try to get statistics. Find ways to make the information more personal without seeming unprofessional. 2.

How to Pitch Research your Audience Know how their background and experience shapes their perspective. Be aware of floor of the building, floor, what room, what time, the entire setting. Mention current media or topics they are likely to be interested in. 3.

How to Pitch Optimize the Presentation Should be organized like a short story. Should read like a twitter feed. Should sound like a sermon. 1.

How to Pitch Optimize the Presentation Adhere religiously to the framework. Concise bullets, consistent formatting. Simple language, only use audio or video when essential or for emphasis. No more than 2 images per slide. 2.

How to Pitch Optimize the Presentation Always show progress and past points. For 90% of presentations, slide animation is best left in the 1990s. If possible, send presentation to colleagues and use their feedback. 3.

How to Pitch Rehearse and Internalize We suggest not to write a script. Study Stanislavski’s system and method acting. Watch Reagan, listen to Churchill. Practice speaking low and slow 1.

How to Pitch Rehearse and Internalize Read a bullet from your notes, look away, and visualize yourself speaking. Simulate “game-day” conditions. Suit up, use a boardroom, borrow a projector. Use downward inflection at the end of sentences for closure and emphasis. 2.

How to Pitch Rehearse and Internalize Video yourself running through the entire pitch beginning to end. Review it. Drink lots of room temperature water and eat a banana before pitching. Remember - the presentation is the roadmap but you are the tour guide. 3.
