Your brochure must demonstrate a strong knowledge of Jonas’ community and a comparison to another real or imagined community.

You may choose from the following characteristics or add characteristics of your own: Beliefs rights of individuals treatment of various ages Gender roles arts & entertainment ways professions are chosen Rules/laws average climate available transportation Education medical facilities park &recreation programs Dining type of government calendar of events Maps manner of dressing crime & punishment rates Sightseeing creating families entertainment Free time family structure celebrations & rituals

Your brochure must be neat, detailed, colorful, creative, and demonstrate a strong knowledge of Jonas’ community and a comparison to another real or imagined community.

Part Two: Community Map ~ The Giver & Jonas’s Community EXAMPLE

Students will spent 5 min. in class (timed) online @ googleimages.com Searching “travel brochures” and “travel posters” for research & to generate ideas for ‘your utopia’ brochure and poster. skim sources and take notes on what type of information is included. Ex. map, average climate, population, sightseeing, available transportation, , arts, entertainment, dining, parks, and programs etc. Students will create a rough sketch of travel poster using ideas and examples from research. Students will review “My Perfect World” frame poem
