Isaiah 6:1-8 A Time to Listen

Isaiah 6:1-2 1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.

Isaiah 6:3-4 3 And they were calling to one another:        "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;        the whole earth is full of his glory." 4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

Isaiah 6:5 5 "Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty."

Isaiah 6:6-7 6 Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for."

Isaiah 6:8 8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"       And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"

Vision of God’s Holiness First: He experienced conviction Second: He experienced confession Third: He experienced Cleansing Fourth: He experienced renewed commitment.

People of Isaiah’s Day Isaiah 1:12 12 When you come to appear before me,        who has asked this of you,        this trampling of my courts?

Isaiah’s Vision

Isaiah’s Response 1st Conviction “I am ruined” High Priests before they approached God’s Presence Days of Preparation then chosen by lot Offered Sacrifice for themselves and their family Offered blood to clean the alter Incense filled the room to obstruct view Then they made intercession for the people.

Isaiah’s Response Isaiah was not prepared to be in God’s presence Isaiah knew that coming into the presence of God in an improper manner had resulted in death. We are in God’s presence.

Isaiah’s Response 2nd He experienced confession “I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips”

Confession Confession is agreeing with God about our condition. Confession is Honest self evaluation. Confession is not Very Popular Confession is not Making excuses for behavior or condition Blaming others or environment

God’s Response to Isaiah 3rd : Isaiah experienced Cleansing 6 Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for."

Cleansing

1 John 1:9  9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:10 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

4th :He experienced renewed commitment. 8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"       And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"

Here am I send me
