Penance leaves people powerless and imprisoned.  The great calls of Scripture are not calls to stop wanting or stop thirsting…or play dead…  John 7:37-38  37 On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

Penance leaves people powerless and imprisoned.  The way of salvation is not to make yourself heavy with your sins…  Matthew 11:28-30  28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Repentance is supernatural ! ! !  There is nothing natural about it…  It is very supernatural to see repentance as a good thing…a gift…  Repentance releases us to supernatural living… 2 Corinthians 5:14  For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.
