OBJECTIVE/OUTCOME We would like our school to create its own ‘Olympic Truce' wall, made up of tiles (12x12cm/15x15cm) designed by you (pupils), that illustrate what friendship, respect and equality in PE/sport means to us. Some of the Truce Tiles from our school will be displayed along the official Torch Relay route in May.

OBJECTIVE/OUTCOME The Olympic Truce aims to promote friendship, respect and understanding across the world through sport and culture. The Olympic Truce is a commitment between all the countries to show respect to each other and to be peaceful for seven days before and after The Games. The Olympic Truce means uniting the world together and bringing countries together, making sure that everyone’s equal.

THE OLYMPICS

THE ANCIENT OLMYPICS The exact origins of the Games are shrouded in myth and legend but records indicate that they began in 776 BC in Olympia in Greece.Olympia The Games were usually held every four years, or Olympiad, as the unit of time came to be known.lympiad During a celebration of the Games, an Olympic Truce was enacted so that athletes could travel from their countries to the Games in safety.

THE MODERN OLYMPICS The Modern Olympic Games were founded in 1894 by Baron Pierre de Coubertin ; a French educationist. His aim was to promote international harmony and understanding through sporting competition. He strongly believed in the Olympic ideal that even enemies could be united in sporting competition. The Olympic Games despite difficult times in the recent past have been a great link between nations and people of different faiths, culture and backgrounds.

THE OLYMPIC OATH "In the name of all competitors, I promise we shall take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern them, committing ourselves to a sport without doping and without drugs, in the spirit of true sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honor of our teams."

THE 5 RINGS The five rings represent the five major regions of the world: Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Every national flag in the world includes at least one of the five colors, which are: (from left to right) blue, yellow, black, green, and red

THE OLYMPIC FLAME The Flame is lit in Greece and, after a short relay around Greece, is delivered to the Host Country, where it is transferred from one Torchbearer to another, spreading the message of peace, unity and friendship. It ends its journey as the last Torchbearer lights the cauldron at the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony in the Olympic Stadium, marking the official start of the Games. The torch will be coming through the Wyre Forest!
