2 The Games of the XXX Olympiad
The 2012 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXX Olympiad, and also more generally known as London 2012, was a major international sport event, as governed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), that took place in London, United Kingdom, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. More than 10,000 athletes from 204 participated.

4 The History of the Olympic Games
The Olympic games began in 776 bc. in Greece and took place every 4 years for nearly 12 century at Olympia, Greece. All the cities in Greece sent their best athletes to Olympia to compete in the Games. For the period of the games all the wars stopped. So they became the symbol of peace and friendship. It was a great athletic festival including many different kinds of sports: running, boxing, discus throwing, wrestling and others. The Olympics were organized up to the year of 391. In 394 A.D. the Games stopped. The idea to revive the Games came from a Frenchman Baron Pierre de Caubertin. He said: "The important thing in the Olympic Games is not winning, but take part“. In 1896 the 1st modern O.G. took place. The competition were held in Greece symbolize the continuation old tradition. Summer and Winter Olympic Games are held separately, in different countries. Winter Olympic Games first took place in At the Winter Games many teams from different countries take part in competitions in figure-skating, skiing, hockey and other winter sports. Since 1936 the opening ceremony has been celebrated by lightning a flame which is called "Olympic Flame". The 22-nd Summer Olympic Games were held in Russia, Moscow in It was for the first time that the Olympic Games were held in our country.

6 Olympic rings This symbol consists of five intertwined rings and represents the unity of the five inhabited continents (Africa, America, Asia, Oceania, Europe). The colored version of the rings—blue, yellow, black, green, and red—over a white field forms the Olympic flag. These colors were chosen because every nation had at least one of them on its national flag.

The Olympic Games featured 32 world records in 8 sports. The largest number of records were set in swimming (8). Most of the records were set by China (5), Great Britain (5) and United States (5). The United States won the highest number of gold medals and the most medals in total, with China dropping to second place and Great Britain took third place. During the Games, Michael Phelps became the most decorated Olympic athlete of all time, winning his 22nd medal. For the first time, women’s boxing was included in the programme, with 36 athletes competing in three different weight classes.
