Learning About Yourself Who You Are Learning About Yourself Key Learning: Discovering things about yourself can lead to personal success and satisfaction. Topic- Who You Are- Self Discovery Key Learning- Discovering of one’s self can lead to personal success and satisfaction. Unit Essential Question- What do you need to know about yourself? Unit Essential Question: How can my principles, skills, and interests help me be successful in life?

How You Grow Aptitudes Skills Abilities Aptitudes can grow into skills. Skills can be developed and mastered. Your set of skills can expand into abilities!

Aptitudes Your APTITUDES are natural talents you have or the potential to learn skills quickly & easily. Examples- Music, fine motor skills, writing, sports, math. Self-Concept Your ___________________ is recognition of both your strengths & weaknesses and feeling good about yourself by accepting who you are. Can affect your personality and attitude in a positive or negative way. People with a realistic self–concept see themselves as they are, not how they want to be or how others see them. A high self-esteem -or- respect for oneself, usually comes with having a realistic and complete self-concept. Can change as you have new experiences and are faced with challenging situations.

Values Your VALUES are the beliefs, ideas, and objects that are important to you as a person. Values are influenced by family, friends, religious beliefs, experiences, and community. Honesty, Family, Health, Religion, Education, Relationships Work Values relate to the work you do or respect. Creativity, Status, Ethics, Variety, Teamwork, Time, Recognition

Values An example of someone who values- FAMILY- eats dinner with the family every night to promote family unity and spend time together. EDUCATION- studies and saves money for college. FRIENDSHIPS- acts as a good listener when your friend is having a hard time. Keeps confidences. TIME- prepares a schedule to prioritize things they need to do. MONEY- creates a budget to spend wisely and save some. INDEPENDENCE- works to save money for a car or a house. ETHICS- is honest with clients when you cannot do a job within a certain timeframe or budget.

A RESOURCE is anything a person can use to help reach a goal. Resources A RESOURCE is anything a person can use to help reach a goal. A positive attitude and aptitudes are resources you have within you. Time is a resources that everyone has, but it is limited. A free education and access to teachers and counselors are resources all Americans have. Unique/Limited resources include- personal connections, inside information, money, personal experiences, materials you have access to, opportunities like internships or scholarships.
