SKELETAL SYSTEM Compare & Contrast human and animal skeletons. Identify which area of the body certain bones belong to. Learn fun skeleton facts!

Human Skeleton We need our bones so we can walk, jump, and dance. We need our bones to protect the soft parts inside of us. Without bones you’d be floppy like a beanbag. Without bones you’d be just a puddle of skin and guts on the floor. http://www.brainpop.com/health/skeletal/skeleton/index.weml

Where in the Skeleton? Upper Body Middle Body Lower Body skull, jaw, shoulder, arm, hand, fingers Middle Body backbone, ribcage, Lower Body hip, legs, feet

Whale Skeleton How is the whale skeleton the same as the human skeleton? They both have a skull and a backbone. How is the whale skeleton different? Whales don’t have a lower skeleton. (no pelvis or leg bones)

Baboon Skeleton How is the baboon skull the same as the human skull? The skull is rounded to protect the brain and has similar eye sockets. How is the baboon skull different from the human skull? Part of the baboons skull extends to cover his “nose” where a human nose contains no bones.

Skeleton Fun Fact How many bones are in the giraffe’s neck versus a human’s neck? Believe it or not a giraffe and a human both have the same number of bones, the giraffe’s vertebrae are just much longer.
