PURPOSE  To provide general information about planning for middle and high school  To begin the planning process for students and their families  To explain some of the changes that will affect students in the future

SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE REQUIRES PLANNING Preparation for high school success and rigor requires students to  take rigorous middle school courses  develop meaningful goals  learn and utilize strong study skills

COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS  NEISD has an initiative to ensure that after high school, all students are prepared to enter  A four-year college or university  A junior or community college  A trade or technical school  The military or  The workforce Taking rigorous courses in middle school prepares students for college and career course work in high school. Students wishing to rank in the Top 10% of their high school class need to pursue rigorous academic courses to prepare for high school.

HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Math, English, Science, and Social Studies TAKE FOUR YEARS OF MATH TAKE FOUR YEARS OF ENGLISH TAKE FOUR YEARS OF SCIENCE TAKE THREE YEARS OF SOCIAL STUDIES

THE THREE-YEAR PLAN  Is a working document that can change  Is to be reviewed & revised as needed  Assists with tracking preparation for high school  Assists in planning for college & career choices

All 6 th graders are required to take 1 semester of P.E. and 1 semester of health. 4 semesters of P.E. are required in middle school. 1 semester must be taken each year with the 4th semester flexible over the 3 years of middle school. P.E. uniforms are required; maroon gym shorts and a Bush T-shirt.

BOYS: football, basketball, track GIRLS: volleyball, basketball, track **The Athletic Course is a one year commitment and students must participate in at least 2 of these sports.

A semester of a fine art is required by the state of Texas. NEISD recommends one year or two semesters of a fine art over the 3 years in middle school.

Students must audition with band directors to determine which instrument the student will play. Students will also have to participate in concerts and contests after school. Band is a full year course. Band counts as a fine art.

Students will learn to play stringed instruments such as violin, cello, viola and string base.  Students will also have to participate in concerts and contests after school.  Orchestra is a full year course.  Orchestra counts as a fine art.

Students will sing, learn to sight-read and learn proper vocal techniques.  Students will also have to participate in concerts and contests after school.  Choir is a full year course.  Choir counts as a fine art.

Activities include drawing, painting, and sculpture. Art I is a semester course and counts as a fine art.

This class emphasizes acting and dramatics. Theater Arts is a semester course and counts as a fine art.

In May 2015 Canyon Ridge Elementary, Stone Oak Elementary, Tuscany Heights Elementary, and Las Lomas Elementary future Bush Bulldog students will have the opportunity to come to Bush Middle School for their 5 th grade visit. The students will tour the school and visit the elective and academic classrooms. The students will also have an opportunity to eat lunch at Bush Middle School!
