Look at the picture. Do you think these statements are TRUE or FALSE. Write your answers down. Tears are important for keeping out eyes healthy. Tears are important for our ability to see. There are 2 different kinds of tears. We have emotional tears in our eyes all the time. People generally have the same ideas about when it is ok to cry. Some people think it can be good for you to cry.

Fast Reading: 4 minutes When you are finished you will have to be able to answer these questions: 1.What is the topic? 2.What is the main idea?

Fill In (phrasal verb) To make not empty…To put something in a hole I filled in my bottle with water.

Flow (verb) To move continuously When you are sad, tears may start to flow like water moving in a river.

Go Ahead (phrasal verb) Used to give permission or to say it is OK to do something Go ahead and take the last piece of pizza.

Liquid (noun) A thing that isn’t solid and can flow or be poured. Ex. Water, juice, soda, coffee, tea, etc. Tears are like water. They are a liquid (not a solid or a gas).

Material (noun) The stuff that makes up larger things Tears help wash away dust, sand or any other materials that might get into your eyes.

Mental (adjective) Having to do with the mind / brain I have a mental block against maths. I don’t understand it or enjoy it, and I never will.

Normal (adjective ) Typical, usual, ordinary, expected It’s normal to feel nervous during a job interview. Everyone does.

Surface ( noun ) The top or outer layer of something The surface of the roads in Gaziantep is very rocky.

Throughout (adverb) During a period of time People in every culture, at every point throughout history, have cried.

View ( noun ) Opinion, the way you think about something Whom did you vote for? What are your political views?

Quoting and Paraphrasing Quoting: –S–Saying what someone else said in the same words. –U–Use quotation marks “ “ –“–“Emotional tears increase the amount of endorphin that gets to the brain.” Paraphrasing: –S–Saying what someone else said in YOUR OWN WORDS. –C–Change the words and the order these words comes in –W–When we cry because we are sad, happy, or hurt, our brain receives more endorphins.
