WHMS has already been making a difference! For nearly 15 years, we have had curricular units that provide opportunities for students to discover their connection to the natural world. We are also a Maryland Green School that connects classroom learning to recycling, energy conservation, habitat restoration and much more. The Department of School Facilities and the Department of Instruction are working together to assist schools with their conservation efforts.

Natural Resource Conservation Pledge This year, we want to renew our commitment to conserving natural resources. It is important to conserve what we have on this earth, and it saves us money too! Our individual efforts do add up. There are 19,000 students and staff in Calvert County Public Schools.

Each school will receive a banner that will let our school community know that conserving natural resources is important to all of us. This banner will serve as a visual reminder of our commitment to conserve natural resources. This is a special year as our school is due to recertify as a Maryland Green School.

Take the Pledge! When each of us sticks to this pledge, it means that 750 people at our school are making choices and taking actions every day that are good for the environment. Replace picture with your school logo

The Banner Our school has chosen the following way to have our staff and students take the pledge…. 1.Show video to school 2.Banner hanging and signing 3.Staff and Student paper/electronic Pledge 4.Remind school about modeling what we teach pre k – 12 and share the positive impacts (share newsletter and energy incentive reports) 5.Decide as a school if any additional resources are needed to maximize the connection between classroom learning and natural resource conservation.
