Financial Aid Financial aid is money to help pay for college or career school. Financial aid is available from a variety of sources for college and career school. Financial aid comes in the form of scholarships, grants, work-studies, and low-interest loans.

Types of Financial Aid Scholarship- money for college that you will not be expected to repay. (Merit-based) Grant- money for college that you will not be expected to repay. (Need-based) Work-study- a work program through which you earn money to help you pay for school. Low-interest loan- borrowed money for college or career school; you must repay your loans, with interest.

State Academic Challenge Scholarships Scholarship Deadline to Apply: June 01, 2015 Requirements: Complete Smart Core and 2.5 GPA or 19 ACT to qualify, FAFSA Required. Award: 4-Year School: 1 st year, $2000; 2 nd year, $3000; 3 rd year, $4000; 4 th year, $ Year School: $2000 each year.

State Governor’s Distinguished Scholarship Scholarship Deadline to apply: February 01, 2015 Requirements: 32 on the ACT or 1410 on the SAT, and a 3.50 academic grade point average, or those who are named National Merit Finalists or National Achievement Scholar. Award: It pays tuition, mandatory fees, room and board up to $10,000 per year.

State Governor’s Scholars Program Scholarship Deadline to apply: February 01, 2015 Requirements: At least a 27 ACT or a 3.5 GPA to apply. Award: $4000 per year.

State Higher Education Opportunities Grant (GO! Grant) Scholarship Deadline to apply: June 01, 2015 Requirements: Must meet income requirements, FAFSA Required. Award: Up to $500 per semester.

What To Do Choose a field of study and college(s). Apply for admissions to colleges/institutions. Apply for scholarships at colleges/institutions. Contact the colleges’ financial aid offices. Plan your college visits.

What To Do Continue to search for financial aid. Fill out the FAFSA. (January) Create an ADHE/YOUniversal account to apply for all state-funded financial aid. (January) Be aware of all deadlines- college and scholarship.
