Fall 2010  Begin integration of learning strategy instruction  Gateway courses  Non-gateway courses 5

 Choose one learning concept:  Read to understand  Listen actively  Organize for effectiveness  Choose one of two strategies selected for each concept. 8

 Read to Understand Generating questions Graphic representations  Listen Actively Two-column note-taking PowerPoint note-taking  Organize for Effectiveness Assignment Calculator Organized Notebook 9

 Receive training in how and why to use the strategy. Workshop Opportunities SAILS Summer Academy One-on–one Conferences 10

 Directly teach the strategy to your students through modeling.  Embed the strategy in tasks or assignments of your choice. Provide feedback.  Use the appropriate rubric to assess the first and final tasks or assignments.  Submit data to Institutional Research. 11

Evaluate student’s ability to:  Read to understand, Listen actively, or Organize for effectiveness And  Use the strategy 12

 Be informed  Consider using one of the strategies in your class (next year is fine!)  Encourage students to use resources: learning center, library, student website
