Standard CRB checks are primarily for posts that involve working with children or vulnerable adults Enhanced CRB Check Enhanced checks are for posts involving a far greater degree of contact with children or vulnerable adults. In general, the type of work will involve regularly caring for, supervising, training or being in sole charge of such people. WHERE CAN I FIND MORE INFORMATION? CODE OF PRACTICEwww.MusicLeader.net WHAT DOES PLI STAND FOR? Public Liability Insurance WHAT IS IT FOR?Public Liability Insurance protects you from damaging other people and their property, whether you are visiting them at their home, or place of work, or they are visiting you WHERE CAN I GET IT?Any insurance broker can provide you with a quote for a policy. Note: MusicLeader’s Code of Practice is endorsed by the Musicians Union. MU members are insured personally in respect of legal liability that may arise following injury or damage to members of the public. The limit of indemnity is £10million. CODE OF PRACTICEwww.MusicLeader.net WHAT DOES DDA STAND FOR? The Disability Discrimination Act (applies to Human Rights legislation) WHAT DOES IT DO?The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995 aims to end the discrimination that many disabled people face. This Act has been significantly extended, by the Disability Discrimination Act 2005, which makes it unlawful to discriminate against people in respect of their disabilities in relation to employment, the provision of goods and services, education and transport. It is a civil rights law.The Act requires public bodies to promote equality of opportunity for disabled people. HOW DOES IT APPLY TO ME? It is unlawful for you to treat a disabled person less favourably, on the ground of disability, than you (as the education provider) treats (or would treat) a person who did not have a disability. Please be mindful this unlawful treatment also applies to gender, race, sexuality, religion and age. WHERE CAN I FIND MORE INFORMATION? treatment/index.html/right-to-receive-equal- treatment/index.html

CODE OF PRACTICEwww.MusicLeader.net WHAT DOES PAT STAND FOR? Portable Appliance Testing (applies to Health and Safety Legislation) WHAT IS IT?Pat testing or portable appliance testing is an important part of any health & safety policy. The Health & Safety Executive states that 25% of all reportable electrical accidents involve portable appliances. The Electricity at Work Regulations place a legal responsibility on employers, employees and self-employed persons to comply with the provisions of the regulations and take reasonably practicable steps to ensure that no danger results from the use of such equipment. This in effect requires the implementation of a systematic and regular program of maintenance, inspection and testing. The obligation is legal where the public may use appliances in establishments such as hospitals, schools, hotels, shops etc. HOW DO I ACTION IT?Providers exist to carry out PAT testing on your equipment (e.g. your PA) or you can access training and buy PAT testing equipment to do it yourself.
