Goals and primary focus areas Standardization /uniformity of hardware; ‘ standard’ pc or laptop uniform use of software; Operating systems Windows XP, OpenSUSE Linux, Apple But also for the applications, where possible From “local” faculty based-network to “global” TU Delft – network;  Improved service/maintenance of ICT facilities (SSC ICT); primary focus areas : services: Microsoft data storage services: back up / storage (personal, group) print services: multifunctionals home working: from every other location

What do we have to do to get there Your PC will be reinstalled completely or you get a new pc All your data on the network must be relocated Personal data L: Group data R: The has to be relocated Personal accounts Functional accounts

ITT = ICT Transition TBM? TBM is the FIRST faculty where on the PC’s and laptops Windows 7 Office 2010 will be installed

Transition starting points  De transition is functional minimally neutral  The storage space you have you will get back Data storage capacity based on Fair use Personal data, quoted ranging from 1 – 8GB (default 2GB) Group, quoted per section based on current use , employee quoted from 1 to 2GB Project takes care of the relocation of all the data stored on the network, Local data is the responsibility of the ‘owner’ of the PC.

Pro’s- and Con’s Pro’s Collaboration throughout all Campus faculties is technically possible (Calendar, data, …) Good reason for new Hardware, All Desktops 2007 or older will be replaced ‘Old’ Hardware will go to the Viafrica project We will take a critical look on the replacement of laptops Con’s It will take time and effort You will have some nuisance the first few weeks after migration (Desktop icons, Favorites, -replies, routine is gone)

The Process (general) ± 12 weeks prior to the migration the FIM announces the upcoming migration. Appoint/ask customer representatives General presentation for the entire Department 8-10 weeks prior to migration, start inventory and test on proper functioning 1 week prior to migration date Go NoGo decision  Result is the migration assignment (including Who migrates When) Every day ±10 PC’s and employee (data) migrate 1,5 Day(s) aftercare on your work location When entire department ready, then the group data R: Handover to the normal line organization

The Process (for the individual) Preparation Will be informed about the exact date Receives instruction what to do prior to migration Executes instruction ± 1 week before migration date Migration day New PC is placed or current PC is reinstalled User-data ( , L: drive) is being copied Training (only for secretary groups) 1 day training Aftercare Instruction what to do at first logon Assistance available during this and the next day, after that via service point.
