Try one… You’ll be amazed!!!

How do you find the answers? Do you memorize the multiplication tables? Do you have trouble memorizing the multiplication tables? Can you figure out the answers without looking at the multiplication grid? How do you find the answer to multiplication problems? Here are some strategies that may help you solve problems that you may not have memorized.

Draw a picture of the problem. Ex. Tabitha was having a party. All the quests were in the dining room waiting for their meal. There were three tables in the room. There were four people sitting at each table. How many people were at the party? 3 tables X 4 at each table = _________

Use real objects 3 X 1=____

Draw an example of the problem using circles and lines. Ex. There were five cars in the parking lot. Each car needed four new tires. How many tires were needed all together?

Use a Hundred’s Chart. I like to use colored disks to cover my numbers. Look at the following problem: 3 X 8 = ______ Get 8 colored disks out. Place the first disk on the number 3. Count ahead 3 and place the next disk on this number. Continue counting three and placing the disks until all 8 disks are placed.

3 X 8 = ______

Multiplication Rule Multiplication problems can be turned around. 3 X 8 and 8 X 3 have the same answer. Try it.

8 X 3 = ____

Using Touch Points You know how to use touch points when adding. You can use the same touch points on your numbers when multiplying. Counting the touches is different, however. When using touch-points to multiply, you must first know the multiplication sequence of that number. It is easy to use the touch point strategy when multiplying by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s because you already know the sequence

Here are the number sequences X … X … X …

Try this your self and see if it works 2 X 7 = ______ 5 X 7 = ______ 10 X 7 = _____

The 9 Times Quickie 1.Hold your hands in front of you with your fingers spread out. 2.For 9 X 3 bend your third finger down. (9 X 4 would be the fourth finger etc.) 3.You have 2 fingers in front of the bent finger and 7 after the bent finger. 4.Thus the answer must be This technique works for the 9 times tables up to 10.

10 Times Quickie 1.Take any number and multiply it by 10. When you do this you will add a 0 to that number, moving the other numbers over one place value. 2.Multiply 10 by 6 and you get 60 3.Multiply 10 by 3 and you get 30 4.Multiply 10 by 30 and you get Multiply 10 by 50 and you get 500

The 4 Times Quickie 1.If you know how to double a number, this one is easy. 2.Simply, double a number and then double it again!

The 11 Times Rule 1.Take any number to 10 and multiply it by Multiply 11 by 3 to get 33, 3.multiply 11 by 4 to get Each number to 10 is just duplicated.
