The Mobile Movement Why is it so important for Australian business? Presented by : John North Joint CEO Evolve Mobile Apps “We will Change Your World”

Bartercard - Agenda New World … New Words State of the Nation Social Media – did you know? Mobile Growth – caught everyone by surprise Mobile Apps – the next big thing

QR Code QR Code (abbreviated from Quick Response Code) is the trademark for a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code) first designed for the automotive industry. Formerly confined to industrial uses, they have in recent years become common in consumer advertising and packaging, because the dissemination of smartphones "has put a barcode reader in everyone's pocket" for the first time. As a result, the QR code has become a focus of advertising strategy, since it provides quick and effortless access to the brand's website or mobile app.

Boomer Market Boomer consumers age spend an average of 189 minutes per month across screens, which include TV + Movie + Online Video + Mobile. Compare this boomer consumption to that of Gen X at 159 minutes and Gen Y at 119. Not only do boomers spend a great deal of time in front of media, but they have the appetite to consume it as content. The bigger question is, are marketers tapping into this opportunity?

Social Networking

How Many Social Networking Sites? This INSANE Graphic Shows How Ludicrously Complicated Social Media Marketing Is Now

Social Media There are now more than 800 million active Facebook users (this was reached on July ) Facebook is the most visited website on the internet (reaching one trillion pageviews on June ) Twitter has 225,000,000 users 190,000,000 tweets are sent on average per day

Social Media LinkedIn has 135,000,000 users (as at Nov 2011), up from about 85 million in late 2010 LinkedIn membership includes executives from every company listed on the Fortune % of LinkedIn users have a household income over $100k YouTube has 490 million unique visitors per month (as at Feb 2011), which generates 92 billion page views More video is uploaded to YouTube in 60 days than the 3 major US networks created in 60 years

Social Media Google+ was the fastest social network to reach 10 million users at 16 days (Twitter 780 days and Facebook 852) Though Google+ is secretive about the number of users, it has been reported that there are 62 million Google+ users QR code uptake has increased 4589% from early 2010 to early % of QR codes appear on product packaging The majority of users expect to receive a coupon or deal from scanning a QR code 11 out of 50 Fortune companies are incorporating QR codes into their marketing strategy 68% of QR codes are scanned via an iPhone

Social Media In Australia: Approximately 100,000 new Facebook accounts were created each month in 2011 There are over 10.7 million Australians actively using Facebook (log in at least once every 30 days) – over 60% of the online population 54% of Australian Facebook users are female, 46% are male. Australian Statistics 79% of Australian Websites are not Mobile Ready or Friendly Only 36% of Australian Businesses have a website 11 Million Australians use a mobile phone, 87% of these users are searching for local businesses is the year that searches via mobile phones will overtake desktop computer searches. This means over 92% of Business are missing out !

Why Mobile? FACT: Not having a mobile experience can lose you business.

Are Smart Phones Spreading Faster than Any Technology in Human History? Mobile computers are on track to saturate markets in the U.S. and the developing world in record time. Those technologies with "last mile" problems—bringing electricity cables or telephone wire to individual homes—appear to spread more slowly. It took almost a century for landline phones to reach saturation, or the point at which new demand falls off. Mobile phones, by contrast, achieved saturation in just 20 years. Smart phones are on track to halve that rate yet again, and tablets could move still faster, setting consecutive records for speed to market saturation in the United States.

Even Facebook got caught by surprise…

THE TIME TO GO MOBILE IS NOW. 400% growth in mobile searches over the past year. 95% of smartphone users have searched for local information. 61% of users call a business after searching. 59% of users visit a business after searching. One in every two mobile searches performed is for local information. There will be one mobile device for every person on Earth by There are 48 million people in the world who have mobile phones, even though they do not have electricity at home!

Mobile “Apps”

Mobile Apps Most business people think a Mobile App is functional and has never thought they could also be used as a marketing machine for your business. Apple has strict guidelines on this but we have a strategy to get your app approved by Apple and comply with all the rules. Once a new or existing customer has downloaded your app you are now on their mobile device, now your in their inner sanctum! It took Apple 79 Months to sell $15 Billion dollars worth of Music It took Apple 29 months to sell $15 Billion dollars worth of apps Estimates are high as $58 Billion in a year in 2013 for app sales

The growth of the mobile industry is incredible In just over 3 years, over 20 billion apps have been downloaded between iPhone and Android devices. iPhone sales in millions  Mobile Industry

Why Mobile Apps? FACT: Your customers prefer apps over mobile websites.

What Does All this mean ?? Ask yourself these 5 questions in someone visits your website on a mobile device? 1.Can my client/customer easily contact me with a ‘Tap to Call button’? 2.Is my business easily located with a dynamic Google map locator? 3.Can my clients/ customers easily navigate my mobile website or will they get frustrated and quickly move on? 4.Can visitors download my mobile app and continue an interactive and closer relationship ? 5.Is it easy for someone who likes your business to recommend you to others – the new ‘word-of-mouth’”

Incredible Growth According to Google, Australia has the second-highest smart phone penetration in the world. Based on current trends, mobile internet use will surpass desktop use in the next few years. You may have a great website already, but if it isn’t mobile-ready, you stand to lose a large audience. While consumers are readily embracing the mobile revolution (95% of smart phone users have searched for local business), the same can’t be said for businesses (92+% of businesses either don’t have a website or are not mobile friendly)

The Trend is Mobile Have a look up from your mobile screen on your next bus or train journey into work and look at what the majority of passengers are doing, yes that’s right the same as you – eyes fixed on the small screen in their hands. Stop by the mall, or go anywhere near a high school and you’ll encounter the most recent evolution of the human race. Mobile devices are now interwoven into the fabric of our daily lives and people are searching for your business, information, products, sharing content and even talking on them! In case you haven’t been keeping up with the latest stats: mobile is growing like crazy. While analysts have predicted for years that mobile will be “the next big thing,” their prophecies are finally coming true in a very big way.

Mobile First Designing for mobile first not only prepares you for the explosive growth and new opportunities on the mobile internet, it forces you to focus and enables you to innovate in ways you previously couldn’t. Some of the biggest web companies in the world are adopting a mobile first design philosophy as well. Google Chairman Eric Schmidt advises: “The simple guideline is whatever you are doing—do mobile first,” If your website doesn’t look good on a smartphone users will move on to one that does. A mobile website ensures that you – not your competitors – capture visitor attention while you have it.

Customers Take Action According to mobile research, people have more trust and confidence in buying from a handheld device over their desktop computer, likely due to associating desktops with malware and other threats. Nine out of ten customers have taken action as a result of a mobile search, with 77% calling or visiting a business. Mobile searches often have more “intent” than desktop searches.

Direct Customers to your Business Location is especially relevant to mobile users, and smart mobile marketing can increase foot traffic to your store or business. If you have a retail storefront, direct prospective customers to your store with directions and a map.
