Worthwhile Worship

The value of worship depends on… Who you worship. Why you worship. How you worship.

Worship can be vain, empty and meaningless …when it is offered following the teachings of men rather than the commandments of God. “And in vain they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.” (Matthew 15:9)

Worship is without value when it is offered in ignorance …by those who do not know WHO they are worshiping or HOW to worship. “For as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you” (Acts 17:23)

Worship that is self-imposed and self-directed has no value. Some “things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.” (Colossians 2:23)

Worship is without value if it is directed toward the wrong objects. They “exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever.” (Romans 1:25) “Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels” (Colossians 2:18) “Covetousness…is idolatry” (Colossians 3:5)

God seeks worship that is offered to Him in spirit and truth. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. (John 4:23)

God is to be worshiped in the Beauty of Holiness Oh, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth. (Psalms 96:9)

Worthwhile worship stretches man beyond the limits of his finite self to reflect the holiness of God above.
