1. The first thing that went wrong is they disobeyed the Word of God. Genesis 2:16-17Genesis 3:2-3 16. The Lord God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; 17. but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you shall surely die.” 2. The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of trees of the garden we may eat; 3. but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’”

2. The first thing that went wrong is they disobeyed the Word of God. Jesus states in Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.”

3. The second thing that went wrong is they believed a lie. Genesis 3:4-5 4. “The serpent said to the woman, “you surely shall not die!’” 5. “For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good from evil.”

Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. 26. For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27. And in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

The third thing that went wrong is they followed after the lust of the flesh. 1John 2:16Genesis 3:6 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. When the woman saw that the tree was good for food [lust of the flesh], and that it was delightful to the eyes [lust of the eyes], and that the tree was desirable to make one wise [pride of life], she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.

6. The third thing that went wrong is they followed after the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16-17 16. But I say, walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17. For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. Galatians 5:24-25 24. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.

7. The third thing that went wrong is they followed after the lust of the flesh. Romans 8:5-6 5. For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace.

Know God’s Word and trust His integrity Do not accept the lie as truth. The third thing that went wrong is they followed after the lust of the flesh. Walk in the Spirit Love the Lord your God with all your heart. Keep your passion for God alive and bring your flesh into subjection.
