The Object of Worship Psalm 95:6-7 April 16, 2017

The Object of Worship We are looking at “True Worship” as stated by Christ in John 4: We defined “true worship” by 4 characteristics.

The Object of Worship Psalm 95:6-7 6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker. 7 For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture, And the sheep of His hand. Today, if you will hear His voice:

The Object of Worship John 4:24 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

The Object of Worship Προσκυνέω – proskyneō Kissing toward one in reverence (Strong's) To honor or reverence a divine being (Webster’s) The Word of God specifically tells us where this reverence and honor is to go.

The object of worship is… …Not Ourselves

The Object of Worship Some say worship as an opportunity for self help. Colossians 2:18 18 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

The Object of Worship Some view worship as entertainment. Psalm 96:9
Oh, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth. Some view worship as a form of self expression. Acts 17:23-25

The Object of Worship 23 for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you: 24 God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. 25 Nor is He worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.

The object of worship is… …Not Ourselves …Not Our Fellow Man

The Object of Worship Some worship men. 2 Thessalonians 2:4 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

The Object of Worship The Apostles understood man is NOT to be worshipped. Acts 10: As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him. 26 But Peter lifted him up, saying, "Stand up; I myself am also a man."

The Object of Worship Some think we make the rules on worship.
Matthew 15:9 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. Some view worship as a way to solve the world’s problems. Psalm 69:29-34

The Object of Worship 29 But I am poor and sorrowful; Let Your salvation, O God, set me up on high. 30 I will praise the name of God with a song, And will magnify Him with thanksgiving. 31 This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bull, Which has horns and hooves. 32 The humble shall see this and be glad; And you who seek God, your hearts shall live. 33 For the LORD hears the poor, And does not despise His prisoners. 34 Let heaven and earth praise Him, The seas and everything that moves in them.

The object of worship is… …Not Ourselves …Not Our Fellow Man … God

Exalt the LORD our God, And worship at His footstool-- He is holy.
The Object of Worship He is holy. Psalm 99:5, 9 Exalt the LORD our God, And worship at His footstool-- He is holy. 9 Exalt the LORD our God, And worship at His holy hill; For the LORD our God is holy.

The Object of Worship Revelation 4: the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: 11 "You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created."

Nothing else is deserving of worship.
The Object of Worship Nothing else is deserving of worship. Matthew 4:10 Then Jesus said to him, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.'

The Object of Worship Revelation 15:4 4 Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You, For Your judgments have been manifested."

The Object of Worship Angels NOT worthy. Revelation 22:8-9 8 Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things. 9 Then he said to me, "See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God."

The Object of Worship Even other gods are NOT worthy Daniel 3:28 28 Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying, "Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God!
