Social Networking By Taha Jamaly Ummulkiram Khambati Yusuf Juzer

 We at Al Ameen Private School are very grateful to be part of this innovative and informative collaboration with the Learning Circles community.  Until now we had never thought that this collaboration would take us so far in our quest for knowledge, but looking back over the weeks we can all see a marked difference in the way that we have started to perceive things.

 It is a collaborative learning program which has helped us to widen our horizon and explore different areas of learning.  We, different people from different communities, coming from different worlds with different mindsets, are united as an individual under this collaboration to work towards the same goal, to acquire knowledge.

 T The advancements in the fields of communication technology compelled us to take up this topic as our project.  In making this project, our aim was to research on how communication in the form of social networking through well-known websites can affect the lifestyle and thinking of the youth of today. And am I proud to say that we did succeed and over about a grueling month’s research and hard work, we finally came across answers that quenched our curiosity.  C Come join us in the quest to acquiring these answers.

 One form of social networking that's growing in popularity is corporate social networking.  You can use corporate social networking to form relationships with other people from your company, or people in other companies in an industry.  You can also get references and build a reputation using corporate social networking tools. It's a great way to get yourself known and network in your field or industry.

 Social networking provides a great way for you to stay in touch with people who may have moved away.  Normally, people try to stay in touch with friends via phone calls and the occasional letter or , but busy lives make it difficult to maintain contact. However, social networking is such a regularly used medium that it's easy to stay in touch with people even when they move away.

 Mobile social networking is becoming increasingly popular as more and more people have cell phones capable of running social networking applications.  People can use mobile social networking tools to stay in touch with friends, and make plans on the fly. Mobile social networking tools are also great if you've got a long train or subway commute and want to stay in touch with friends and find out what they're doing.

 Sheltered individuals may not understand how many different points of view that people have, and that it's possible for people to hold drastically different beliefs.  Social networking helps you learn about diversity and get exposure to multiple points of view. Ultimately, this exposure can help you to learn to look at things from different angles, and be more tolerant of other people's opinions, things that go a long way in the working world.

 Many student organizations have specific social networks designed to help students connect.  Social networking tools can be a great way for students to get in touch with other students in the same school, or when they're considering a college or new school.  Check with student organizations to see if they have a particular social networking tool, or type the school into your favorite social networking Web site and see what you find.

 You can use social networking to get feedback on ideas immediately, or to ask questions and get answers quickly.  If you're developing a product or even just an idea, you can bounce it off your friends and social networking contacts and find out what they think about it.  You can also ask questions and receive answers in near-real- time, if your contacts know the answer or if you're a student in touch with teachers.

The most obvious disadvantage of social networking sites is the risk of identity theft and fraud. The personal information of users can be used by dubious people for illegal activities. Information like the address, name, location, and age can be used to commit online crimes.

Many people pretend to be someone else and prepare their online profiles with false information, so as to dupe unsuspecting users. So, if you do not know the person face to face then it will be very hard for you to find the real identity.

Another cause of concern is cases of online harassment and stalking. Since the social networking sites, are very poorly regulated so it can be a very fertile ground for people trying to get even with you. They can spread malicious humor among your friends and also download and morph your photos.

We are glad to have come across this collaborative learning program which has helped us to widen our horizon and explore different areas of learning. Let’s hope we can take this collaboration to new heights and new levels of knowledge gaining and sharing.
