Aspire 2 Perform - One Watford’s experience Emma Gadsby Tuesday 22 April 2008

Why did we use the toolkit?  Fundamental review in 2005  Range of new members  Strong and Prosperous Communities White Paper – October 2006  LAA 1 / LAA 2  CPA reinspection

What did we do?  Workshop setting for the Aspire tool  External facilitator  3 key questions  Where are we now?  Where do we want to be?  How do we get there?  Perform tool – to follow

What impact did it have?  Shared understanding of growing expectations on LSPs  Shared ownership of a set of recommendations  Gave the LSP credibility among partners  Demonstrated the worth of being at the table  Created a more business-like approach

What recommendations have been made?  Establish a Health Partnership and an Economic Development Partnership  Widen membership  Formalise terms of reference including spending protocols  Improve communications  Tighten up performance management processes

What have we done so far?  Health Partnership  Economic Development Partnership   Widen membership  Terms of reference   Improve communications   Perform toolkit 

What difference has the toolkit made?  See previous slide!  More business-like focus – clear why people are in the partnership  Better spread of responsibility and ownership  Planning ahead

What were the learning points?  External facilitator good  Be clear about why you’re doing it and what you want out of it  Make the toolkit work for you  Revisit in time to check the partnership has developed
