Communicating: Traditionalist Known as the “Greatest Generation”Private Not open with their personal thoughts Loyal & Respectful Raised in a paternalistic environment and were taught to respect authority. Resulted in generation tending to be civic-minded and loyal to employer Technologically Challenged Less technologically adept than younger generations and usually slower to change their work habits.5

Communicating: Baby Boomer Tend to hold positions of power and authority in workplace. Communications Prefer face-to-ace meetings and depend on body language to assess communication. Workplace Flexibility Believe in hierarchal structure. Boomers have a harder time adjusting to workplace flexibility trends. Technologically Challenged Not as tech savvy as the younger generations and are slower to implement trending technologies.6

Communicating: Gen X Encompasses million Americans of which 60% attended college Technologically Adept Share information in sound bites and provide feedback. Technology is woven into their daily lives. Share information in sound bites and provide feedback.Individualistic independent, resourceful generation. Raised in the era of two-income family. Resulted in independent, resourceful generation. Work Values Embrace a hands off management philosophydislike micro-managing Managers often incorporate humor and games into work activities. Communicating: Gen Y / Millennial Largest growing segment of workforce with an estimated 70 million individuals Technologically Savvy Grew up with immersed in technology. Prefer and text messaging rather than face-to-face contact. Prefer webinars to traditional presentations. High Expectations Gen Y is confident, ambitious, and achievement oriented. Have high expectations of employers, and seek challenges, and not afraid to question authority. Attention Seekers Appreciate being kept in the loop and seek frequent praise and reassurance.8
