 The SPAG test combines the scores from a punctuation and grammar test with a separate spelling test to give one overall level.  Grammar and Punctuation test is out of 50.  Spelling test is out of 20.  Total mark out of 70.

 My brother is training to be a geography teacher.  John concentrated very hard on his homework.  The monkey looked ridiculous wearing a hat.

 Each year delivers one lesson a week dedicated to SPaG.  What is taught in this lesson is then followed up on in literacy lessons.  Each child is also set homework on the topic covered in class.  Spelling tasks and spelling lists are given each week to learn and complete

 Spelling strategies.  Check your child’s homework – understanding of the word.  When reading, look and point out grammar and discuss how it has been used.  Use appropriate vocabulary with your children – eg nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, pronouns, prepositions, phrases, clauses, connectives, inverted commas……  Help your child with their SPAG homework
