Garrett Pikul & Julian Finley

 Each wrestler is required to maintain an honest attempt to stay within the 10 foot circle and wrestle aggressively, regardless of position or the time or score of the match  It is the responsibility of contestants, coaches, and referees to avoid the use of stalling tactics or allowing the use thereof. This shall be demonstrated by those responsible with strict enforcement by referees

 1 st Stalling Violation- Warning  Subsequent violations will be penalized when they occur according to the penalty chart  NFHS Rule Book Pages 42 & 43

It’s stalling when a wrestler: a. Continuously avoids contact with the opponent b. Plays the edge of the mat c. Prevents the opponent from returning or remaining inbounds d. Is not attempting to secure a takedown

 Upper body tie-ups with not attempt to take down the opponent  Blocking with the forearms or head against the chest or clavicle  Faking Contact  Grasping one leg and holding it without a follow through for a takedown  Leaving the 10 foot circle without making contact  Controlling the opponent's hand or wrist and not following through with an attempted takedown

 It is stalling in the advantage position when a wrestler:  Does not wrestle aggressively and attempts to secure a fall  Legally holds the heel to the buttocks while the defensive wrestler is broken down on the mat for more than 5 seconds  Holding an opponents' leg in an action not designed to break down the opponent or is for the purpose of securing a fall or is to prevent an escape or reversal

 Being content to ride the opponent  Double leg grapevine for riding only  Trapping an ankle with a lower leg while using a deep waist  Deep waist with no attempt to improve  Holding a cradle with no attempt to turn or bring the opponent back  Shooting a deep half or armbar while and opponent is broken down & remaining parallel

 Reputedly putting on a grapevine when an opponent stands  Staying behind your opponent while on your feet, making no attempt to bring the opponent to the mat  THERE IS NO RIDING TIME !!!!

 It’s stalling in the defensive position when the defensive wrestler refuses to attempt and escape or reversal  Pg. 88 Case Book  Remaining on all fours in a basic start  Content to lie on the mat belly-down  Lying on the mat with elbows held in close to the body  Grasping an opponent’s hands and holding them close to the body

It’s considered stalling when either wrestler:  Repeatedly grasps or interlocks around one leg of the opponent to prevent scoring  Delays the match  Repeatedly creates a stalemate situation to prevent an opponent from scoring

 Stalling should be called the same in OT as in regulation (This includes the 2 30 second tie brakers)  Ultimate Tie Braker is a sudden death ride out. This is controlled wrestling  Utilize 1-2 quick stalemate calls in UTB before making a stalling call

 When calling stalling:  Don’t be afraid to make the call  Don’t’ make up a stalling call  Calling it early in the match will save you from having to make two quick calls later in the match  Be Consistent!!
