City of Oak Ridge Co-Ed Dodgeball League FALL 2015

League Registration  Teams made up of 8 players At least 2 players must be female Maximum of 15 players per team  Early registration period: August 31 st - September 21 st $150 to register your team  Late registration period: September 22 nd - 26 th $150 registration fee plus $25 late fee ($175)

Game Format  8 vs. 8 (at least 2 females per side) A team may start “short-handed”, with 6 players if only 1 female present Other team isn’t obligated to play with less than 8 players  Matches consist of (2) 25 minute halves and 4 minute halftime Rounds- 5 minutes, or when all players on one side are eliminated As many rounds will be played as time allows A new round will not begin if there is less than 3 minutes on clock

Dodgeball Court

Game Format  Winning a round Eliminating all players on other team Have more players still “in” when time expires  Winner of match is determined by final score at end of regulation 2 points for every round won 1 point to each team for ties 0 points for every round lost If score tied at end of match, OT round of 3 minutes, with extended neutral zone will be played. Will play as many OT rounds as needed to determine match winner

Opening Rush Every round begins this way  All players must stand on end line, with back foot out-of-bounds and front foot on line.  8 balls are placed equidistantly across half court line  On the whistle, 3 players from each team sprint to half court to knock balls back to their teammates

Opening Rush  Dodgeballs become “active” after they touch or cross the end line  Some incidental contact between opposing players may happen, but aggressive contact or fighting for balls is prohibited

Ways to Get Out  Getting hit  A ball you threw is caught by an opposing player  Players DO NOT come back in if their teammates make a catch  Stepping out of bounds Over sidelines or across attack line  Player fails at an attempted block or catch

Blocking and Catching  Blocking- using a held ball to block a ball thrown at you Balls must be blocked away from your body Holder must maintain possession of the blocker ball If ball strikes your hand on top of the blocker, that constitutes a hit  Catching- catching a thrown ball before it hits the ground, which forces the ball’s thrower out One of your teammates DOES NOT get to come back in the game

Blocking and Catching  Balls tipped or deflected in the air, are dead to everyone except the player the ball originally struck  You may make a catch off a block Must perform a clean block Must maintain possession of the blocker through the process of making a clean catch Ball is dead to everyone except player performing the block/catch

Retrieving Balls Out-of-Bounds (See Dodgeball League Rules)  Players both in and already eliminated from the game may retrieve balls out of bounds Players still in the game must exit and re-enter court from end line to retrieve ball. Crossing the sideline at any point, for any reason, constitutes an out. Crossing the end line to catch a ball out of bounds does nothing.  All dodgeballs retrieved must cross the end line to be reactivated. This can include throwing, rolling, kicking, or any other form of influencing the ball back toward the court. Balls forced back in-bounds across the sideline are inactive, and must be forfeited to the other team by rolling it across their attack line. EXCEPTION 1: Balls rolling across sidelines on their own are still active, so long as no player or spectator influenced the ball back in-bounds. EXCEPTION 2: Players can reach over sideline while in-bounds to retrieve balls out- of-bounds without penalty, but are out if any part of their body touches out-of- bounds

Stalling/Hoarding (5 Second Rule) (See Dodgeball League Rules)  Stalling - Running out the clock, with the lead, by holding the active dodgeballs and/or making no effort to engage in game play.  If court monitor deems that “ stalling ” is taking place, monitor will:  signal stalling  Determines which team has more players and is therefore stalling (if teams are at equal numbers, then it’s the team with more dodgeballs in their possession). Then alerts that team that they must throw (must cross attack line) at least half the balls in their possession within a 5 second countdown.  Begins a 5 second countdown (by hand)

 If team called for stalling doesn’t throw half the dodgeballs in their possession by the time the 5 second countdown has ended: Half of the balls in their possession are forfeited to the other team A free throw is awarded to one player on opposing team (thrower immune to being hit or being out if caught during free throw) Clock will stop during free throw  5 Second Violation - team with more players may not control all the balls in play for more than 5 seconds  Call and rules same as with stalling above

Neutral Zone  Space between attack lines  Crossing your opponent’s attack line constitutes player going “out-of- bounds”, and they are out  Physical contact in the neutral zone between opponents is strictly prohibited, and initiator of the contact will be called out  When 3 or fewer players remain on either team  Neutral zone will extend to front attack lines on referee’s signal

Extra Players or “Mercy” Rules  If a team trails by 8 or more points, that team may start the round with one extra player if present (for a total of 9).  For each additional 2 points the team trails, they may add another additional person to the starting lineup if the extra players are present.  These players must be removed once the team has made up these points.  Extra players may play even if the team is playing short-handed due to insufficient players of a particular gender.

Uniform Policy  Both teams will need to wear shirts with matching colors  You are encouraged to use team shirts, but jersey vests are available for use during matches  If 2 teams are wearing the same color, one team will be required to wear vests to be more easily identified by the official
