would rather + be + Ving Present I would rather be lying on the beach than studying English

Would rather (sooner) + have + V3 Unreal Past I would rather have gone to Istanbul for holiday than (have) stayed home.

Would rather/sooner + he/she/... + V2 would prefer + him/her/… + to + V1 Present I would rather he became a lawyer but she wants to be a teacher. I would prefer him to become a lawyer.

Prefer Prefer + Ving + to + (doing) I would prefer running to walking. Prefer + to + V1 + rather than + (V1) I would prefer to stay home rather than meet her. I would prefer to eat meat rather than (eat) chicken.

Prefer / Like in the past For past preferences if we could do it we must use prefer or liked. We CAN’T use would rather / sooner. When I was a child, I prefered playing football to (playing) basketball. When I was a child, I liked playing footbak better than playing basketball.

Used to Vs Would Used to + state verbs or action verbs. When I was a child, I used to ride a bike all day. When I was a child, I used to have toy cars. Would + action verbs When I was a child, I would/used to ride a bike.

Be + used to + Ving Present I am used to waking up early on weekdays.
