TPC undertook to conduct the revision with assistance and encouragement from ERMA & OSH. Review committee convened by the TPC comprising:  Regulators (ERMA & OSH)  Authorities (local government)  Timber treatment industry  Independent consultants  Unions  Chemical suppliers

Why Best Practice Guideline not a Code of Practice? BPG more flexible and industry led. Still endorsed by OSH as a preferred means of compliance with HSE. ERMA may recognise parts of it as Code of Practice under HSNO. 6

The BPG outlines best practices for complying with:  Health & Safety in Employment Act.  Hazardous Substances & New Organisms Act  Resource Management Act  Plus regulations to these Acts.

Health & Safety in Employment Act. BPG describes means for:  Providing and monitoring a safe working environment.  Providing and maintaining facilities for health and safety on site.  Ensuring plant and equipment is safe.  Ensuring working arrangements are not hazardous.  Procedures to deal with emergencies.

Hazardous Substances & New Organisms Act. BPG describes:  Test certification requirements.  Approved handler requirements.  Tracking requirements.  Exposure limits for the various timber preservatives.

Resource Management Act. BPG covers general requirements for treatment plant sites including waste disposal, to comply with the Act.

When will you get a copy?  Currently in final review stage by the Committee.  Expectation is that it will be available by about May.  All TPC licenses will receive a free copy.
