Making Strong Small Grant Applications

What is a small grant? A grant up to the value of £10,000 Can be from a charitable trust, Sport England or BLF Awards for All Can be from local sources such as a parish council / local grant giver Normally for a specific piece of work / project

What do you need to consider? What is the cost of my project? What will the grant be spent on? What funders should I consider? What information do I need about the funder? If my project is more than £10k will I need to make multiple applications?

What makes a strong grant application? Clear description of project Clear understanding for the need of the project Understanding of the needs of the potential beneficiaries Proof of recent and good quality consultation Costs are realistic Strong outcomes and outputs that provide value for money

A few tips Be clear and concise – do not waffle. Understand the project in case you have to answer further questions. Clarify you work in partnership with other organisations to improve the services to your beneficiaries/participants Stay within word limits if they are stated by the funder Ensure your budget adds up and costs are realistic – if they ask you to contribute money make sure you can Ensure you meet the funders criteria Get good letters of support or supporting quotes
